If the weather prevents you from enjoying the great outdoors during your stay, there are some great rainy-day activities throughout the Sierras.
Just south of the Bishop area is a family-friendly hot spring: Keough’s Hot Springs is “the largest natural hot springs pool in the Eastern Sierra.” There is a large pool with a fun waterfall/sprayer on the shallow end (this pool is warm and open to the sky), and a shallow soaking pool that is Jacuzzi-temperature and covered. There is an entrance fee for this facility, and they have a massage therapist on site for extra relaxation. Also in Bishop is the Back Alley Bowling Bar & Grill, with 10 lanes of bowling fun, and a movie theater: Bishop Twin Theater.
For indoor activities in Mammoth, visit the Minaret Cinemas for a movie, or the family-fun Color Me Mine: this studio in the Vons shopping center has a selection of ceramic pieces you color and glaze yourself. The pieces are fired and ready for you to keep 3 days later (shipping available). Also in Mammoth, Snowcreek Athletic Club is great place for spa treatments, steam rooms, whirlpools, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, full gym, and many fitness classes (yoga, spin, Zumba, etc.).
In the June Lake area, the Double Eagle Resort and Spa has a large indoor pool and Jacuzzi, steam rooms, spa treatments, and a full gym.
A great indoor activity in the Lee Vining area can be found at the Mono Lake Scenic Area Visitor center. This information center has a large high-definition, surround-sound theater showing the award winning “Of Ice and Fire: A Portrait of Mono Basin” every half-hour, as well as many interactive displays where you can learn about the Mono Basin’s geology, ecology, and human history.
In addition to the indoor area activities, don’t forget to pack cards, board games, and hot cocoa for rainy day fun at your campsite.
